Safe To Say (That You Are The One)

He can hear Steve chuckling from the other room, along with the clicking of the mouse that reverberates through the quiet house. Chris smiles. Steve’s good moods have always been catching, something that he absolutely adores about his lover.

But when Steve’s occasional chuckles become full blown laughter, Chris frowns and heaves himself up from where he’s been eating a sandwich at the kitchen table. His leg is still bothering him, and he limps a little on his way to the living room, where he finds Steve laughing with his head thrown back and almost toppling off the chair in the process.

He blinks and leans against the doorway, crossing his arms over his chest as he tries to decide whether he should be amused, too, or fear for Steve’s sanity.

“What’s so damn funny?” he finally ventures to ask. “You’ve been giggling in front of that thing for the past half an hour.”

Steve turns his head to look at him and grins, blue eyes sparkling.
“Just the usual thing.”

That doesn’t really help, and Chris crosses the distance between them to peer at the computer screen, smiling when he puts his hands on Steve’s shoulders and Steve instantly reaches up to entwine their fingers together.

“What usual thin-” He trails off and groans as soon as he recognizes the logo on the page. “You shouldn’t read this crap.”

Steve laughs again, squeezing his fingers. “C’mon. It cracks me up.”

Chris can’t really say that he shares the feeling. Questions, assumptions, speculation; all invariably leading to pretty much the same conclusion. After months of dealing with it, he really can’t see the irony anymore.

“It’s amazing how they work it all out,” Steve says again.

Chris snorts. “Yeah.”

Steve cranes his neck to look up at him, tugging at his hand until Chris is leaning down and he can kiss the pout off his lips.

“It is pretty funny,” he insists. “I don’t know where they get our breaking up.”

Chris rolls his eyes. “Oh I have no clue, either... Maybe from all the depressing stuff you’ve been pouring in your latest album?”

Steve chuckles. Again. The bastard.
“Yeah, maybe.”

“What I don’t get is how they work me out as being the asshole.”

Steve arches an eyebrow at him. “Well, that is pretty obvious.”

Chris huffs indignantly. “And why would that be?”

“Well... Seeing as I am the one who’s been pouring all that depressing stuff in his latest album... I’m clearly the heartbroken, and you’re clearly the heartbreaker.”

Chris rolls his eyes and swats playfully at the back of his head. He leans down to press a swift kiss to Steve’s lips before walking back to the kitchen.

“Turn that fuckin’ thing off,” he says on his way out. “It’s all bullshit anyway.”

‘It has to be.’

He looks up to see Chris framed in the doorway, much like earlier that afternoon. He’s shifting his weight awkwardly from one foot to the other, and Steve frowns a little, worriedly.

“You okay? Is it your leg?”

Chris shakes his head and scratches the back of his neck in that trademark gesture of embarrassment that unfailingly has Steve longing to cover every ounce of his skin with kisses.

“No, I... uh... I just...”

Steve’s frown deepens. His curiosity perks up, along with his mounting confusion.

Chris takes a deep breath. “Are you happy? With... with me.”

Steve blinks, and stares, and smiles. He puts the book he has been reading aside and pats the empty side of the bed next to him.

Chris doesn’t move. It’s almost as if he’s afraid of taking even one step, terrified of the answer he might get. Steve looks at him; at the lost, fearful look in his eyes, at the tension in his shoulders. He’s so much different from the asshole that people online seem to think he is. How on Earth do they work that out?

“Chris,” he calls again, giving him a reassuring smile. “Come here.”

Chris eventually goes, ungluing himself from the doorway and walking up to the bed with an uncertainty in his stride that has nothing to do with the aftermath of the fracture. It’s so out of character that Steve’s breath catches a little.

He wraps one arm around him, and Chris exhales shakily, settling his head over Steve’s chest.

“I thought about it, you know?” he says quietly. “More than once. Been wonderin’.”

Steve pulls him closer. He has the feeling that he knows where this is heading, and he doesn’t like it. At all.

“I listen to that album and I wonder... ‘How much of that is me?’.”

“Chris - ”

“‘Cause they’re right, you know?” Chris plunges on, not hearing him, or maybe just ignoring him. “They may be an imaginative lot, but they’re not stupid; you are in pain when you sing those songs.”

Steve sighs and scoots down on the bed until he’s at eye level with Chris. There’s everything there, every emotion that Chris has ever felt stripped down and bared in the open blue of his eyes for Steve to see.

He reaches out to trace Chris’ tense features, fingertips skimming over cheekbones and stubble that he knows by heart. Chris watches him as if enthralled still waiting for that answer that Steve has no intention to give, at least not with words.

He buries his fingers into Chris’ hair and lets them thread through the long locks tussled up with sweat from the July heat. He tugs Chris closer, gently, bringing their mouths together, tongues instantly entwining with one another, dancing for dominance.

One of Chris’ arms sneaks around Steve’s back, his hand fisting the soft fabric of Steve’s grey t-shirt. The touch is pleading, scared, so unlike Chris that Steve wonders how he missed it, this fear that’s gnawing away at Chris and that clearly has done so for a while.

Chris whispers his name and leaves it hanging there; like a question, a prayer, or maybe just a word. Steve doesn’t know, doesn’t care. He shifts them around until Chris’ laying under him. He watches as those perfect lips move to say something, and he quickly shushes them, placing kind fingers over Chris’ parted mouth.

“Don’t speak, Christian.”

It’s barely a murmur, but Chris listens and falls silent, blue eyes burning into Steve’s. It’s the most beautiful thing he has ever seen, and he allows himself a few moments to stare back with the same kind of longing in his own irises before he sweeps down to press his mouth over the expanse of Chris’ throat.

He explores every ounce of exposed skin as if he’s never tasted that musky tinge that’s pure Christian, that intoxicating aroma that he’s the only one allowed to savor.

He feels Chris tremble underneath him as he whispers in his ear.

The t-shirts come off next, Steve uncovering Chris’ torso as if he’s unwrapping a gift from God Himself.

“You’re so beautiful.”

Chris smiles up at him, that shy kind of smile that none but Steve ever gets to see, his palm splaying over Steve’s chest, the pad of his thumb running softly over a nipple.

Steve bends down and captures his mouth again, the kiss long and thorough as if it’s meant to be the last. One of his hands travels down to Chris’ waist to unzip his pants, sneaking inside to feel the prize that’s awaiting him.

Chris moans a little and shifts, hooking one calf around Steve’s, who finally releases him and grins down at him, their chests rising and falling in synchronized panting.

Steve takes his time to drink in the sight of Chris’ flushed features and then leans down to map his body, worshipping, open-mouthed kisses tracing incoherent paths over Chris’ chest. A shiver runs down Steve’s spine when Chris arches under his touch.

He lingers at his hipbones, tongue licking unspoken reassurances and silent vows over Chris’ flesh as his hands slowly slide Chris’ jeans down further until he can let them fall over the side of the bed.

“So beautiful,” he whispers again, brushing his lips over Chris’ exposed groin.

Chris moans and looks up at him, eyes dark with longing. Steve shudders. He is beautiful, too beautiful for him; too beautiful for anyone. He thinks, ‘otherwordly’ and he says so, fingers skimming in silent amazement over Chris’ muscular thigh.

Chris chuckles breathlessly, hands running over Steve’s back for a few precious instants before going to gently slip Steve’s own pants out of the way.

“Shhh,” Steve says, descending languidly over Chris and groaning as their naked bodies come in contact, flesh on flesh, skin on skin. He buries his face in the crook of Chris’ neck for a moment, moaning low at the back of his throat as their erections grind together.

Time stands still for a while, neither of them moving, Chris’ arms wound tightly around Steve’s back, Steve’s face firmly buried into the damp skin of Chris’ neck. They stay like that for what to both of them feels like an eternity, until Steve pulls back and kisses Chris quietly before leaning over to rummage through the night stand’s drawer.

He never tears his gaze away from Chris as he prepares him, drinking in every moan, every flicker of expression, every different shade of blue in his eyes, every move as Steve’s fingers work him open.

It’s beautiful to the point of being breathtaking, and Steve gasps along with Chris when he feels him clench down. There’s a plea written in Chris’ eyes, and once again Steve doesn’t look away as he tears a condom open with his teeth and slips it on with practiced ease.

They both moan loudly when Steve enters, Chris’ fingertips instantly digging into the rippling muscles of Steve’s back.

Steve’s thrusts are slow, setting up that deliberate sensual pace that he knows can drive Chris crazy. And yet, the feeling of Chris’ hot body writhing under him is too much for him to keep it up for long, and soon his own moves become frantic, urgent, craving.

Tongues lick and teeth bite, moans choked into one another’s throat as their mouths clash together. Chris’ heel presses at the small of his back, and Steve knows then that they’re close, so close, but he doesn’t want to let go just yet.

He bites down hard on his lip until he tastes blood. Chris is pressing his nape into the pillow, the beautiful expanse of his throat once again exposed for Steve’s lips to take. He does just that, bending low to suck greedily at Chris’ pulse point, adjusting his plunges to that rhythm so that every part of their bodies is in synch.

The knowledge that everything about them is now one single, powerful entity, as cheesy as it may sound, is enough to drive Steve off the edge. He comes with a cry that sounds like Chris’ name, moaning louder when Chris’ own invocation penetrates the white haze his mind had delved into a moment later, making Steve’s skin tingle.

He tries to pull back after a while, smiling when Chris holds him in place. It’s an old routine between the two of them, every single time; Steve would try to disentangle himself, and Chris would keep him there, just a little while longer. Always.

He rolls off him when Chris is ready to let him go (and when he’s ready to be let go of), both of them groaning when the contact is broken, both of them panting, their eyes still dark and hued.

Chris rolls onto his side and props himself up on one elbow, his fingers running delicately over Steve’s cheek. Still-hot lips are pressed over his temple, and Steve smiles again. It feels like home.

He turns his head a little to capture that loving stare with his own.
“Do you have your answer now?”

Chris kisses the underside of his jaw and lays his head back over his chest. He doesn’t say anything, but Steve knows it’s a yes.

Aw no, why hiding? Mine wasn't an attack, I'm sorry if it ever sounded like that. *hugs* What I meant is that since we don't know him and all... I mean, why all the attacks towards him? *sighs* This KANE wank has just exasperated me. Sorry about that. LOL

I never know if I've upset someone with my comment.... I think with me it's believeable that he could be like that because several characters he's played have been like that. But I donno- don't take anythimg I say on him as gospel. I love how you have him act here! It's so adorable.

Wank of anykind annoys me, I usually try and steer clear of it. Sorries for the misunderstanding.
